Natasha Tunnicliffe reflects on her internship – Summer 2017

Natasha 4Wow, as I sit down to write about my time in St. John it is with mixed emotions, because it means that my time on the island has come to an end…but there is so much good to reflect on! There was so much good that God did, so many amazing experiences and new friends made in my short time on the island!

I came to the Island and to the internship with Freshwater Church looking for fresh perspective. Coming out of a really busy and stressful season of life and it was amazing to see how that was accomplished. I remember the first few days in St. John were a bit shocking to me, the pace was one much slower than what I was used to, but that encouraged me to be present with everyone I came across! I especially appreciated conversations with John and Anne, that first week as we began to listen to each others stories and how God had worked in our lives! I immediately felt welcomed and as I heard about the community and vision of Freshwater church I was excited to partner with the church in any shape or form! I was ready to come and help… Little did I know that the community of this church would do far more for me than I could ever do for them 🙂

As time went on my co intern Addison and I got to lead worship and spend time with the kids both at Sunday School and at Monday night bible studies. We had the privilege of painting the carnival equipment, updating Freshwater’s online presence, and many other day to day tasks. We also got to participate in a lot of fun activities like weekly yoga followed but woman’s Bible Study, and lots of time connecting with the church family. I was deeply impacted by each persons story and how God has been working and continues to work in the lives of people all around the world!

One verse that was very special to me throughout the trip (shared by Pastor John) is found in Isaiah 55:12 “For you shall go out in peace and be led forth in joy, the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” I was deeply moved by the peace and joy I experienced being restored to me as I was surrounded by the beautiful landscape of the island, and the beautiful people I met, and the beautiful God we serve!

Thank you Freshwater Church for the long lasting impact you have made on my life!

Until next time!
